Comparison · NotebookLM

A NotebookLM alternative for work that leaves the notebook.

NotebookLM, renamed Gemini Notebook in July 2026, made source-grounded answers mainstream. Citesvue applies the same discipline to a team workspace where recordings, documents, roles, and issue trackers all meet.

Positions

NotebookLM (now Gemini Notebook) says

Google positions the product as a source-grounded research and thinking tool: you add sources, and answers cite them. Google documents per-plan caps, with the Standard tier at 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook, and 50 chat queries per day, rising through Pro at 500 notebooks, 300 sources, and 500 queries per day. In the enterprise edition, sharing requires licensed users, and viewers cannot upload sources.

  • Excellent for solo research synthesis across many documents.
  • Free tier is genuinely useful and widely available.
  • Strong at generating study and briefing formats from sources.
Citesvue does

Citesvue is not a research notebook. It is an evidence layer for recorded work: the same page-and-section citation for documents, plus timestamp and frame citation for recordings, inside projects with roles, audit trail, and a route from finding to Jira ticket.

  • The question spans a recorded session and the specification document behind it.
  • Findings must land in Jira or Linear with their evidence attached.
  • Access has to be scoped by workspace, project, and role, with deletion that cascades.
Head to head

What travels with the answer.

The rows that decide this are not about summary quality. They are about what a colleague can verify without reopening the source.

When not to switch

Cases where they are the better buy.

A comparison that never concedes anything is marketing. These are the situations where we would tell you to stay.

  • You are synthesising reading material rather than producing team deliverables.
  • No one needs role-based access, audit trail, or ticket routing.
  • Your sources are documents only, with no recordings involved.
Run the test yourself

Three steps, one session, no migration.

If you already trust source-grounded answers, the change is smaller than it looks. Put the same PDF in a Citesvue project, add the session recording that discussed it, and ask one question across both.

  1. 01

    Upload one session

Any recording you already have. No bot, no calendar connection, no import job.

  2. 02

    Add the document behind it

The specification, contract, or test plan the session was about. PDF, Word, or Markdown.

  3. 03

    Ask the awkward question

The one where the answer matters. Check whether what comes back can be verified without reopening the source.

Buyer questions

Switching from NotebookLM (now Gemini Notebook), answered.

  • Yes. Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook in July 2026; existing notebooks and sources carried over. Both names refer to the same source-grounded product.
  • Because of what a notebook does not do: capture your own recorded sessions with frame-level citation, enforce workspace roles, keep an audit trail, and push a finding into Jira with its evidence attached.
  • Scanned pages are read as pages, so the citation is the page and section, the same shape as a text PDF. OCR pages are tracked as a sub-allowance inside your document page allowance.
  • That is the point of the project scope: one question, one answer, with each source cited in its own native unit.
Closing argument

Your next recording could be your most valuable asset.

Or it could sit in a Drive folder nobody opens again. The difference is whether it has citations attached.
